Lampard blasts his Chelsea stars after Everton defeat

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has said that his side wasn’t committed enough and has slammed the players for their ‘sloppiness’ that led to their 3-1 defeat against Everton on Saturday.

The Blues fell to their third defeat in four league matches after a spirited Toffees side gave interim boss Duncan Ferguson three points on his first game in charge. Richarlison gave the hosts the lead early in the first half before Dominic Calvert-Lewin doubled the Toffees’ advantage. Mateo Kovacic reduced the deficit but Calvert-Lewin scored late on to seal the win.

and Lampard was unhappy with his side’s lack of intensity in the north-west.

Asked whether Chelsea matched Everton’s intensity, Lampard replied: ‘Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Work rate yes but that’s one thing, I’d expect to match everyone on that. Physical contact is another thing. ‘If you’re not going to win headers or balls are going to bounce down and you’re not going to go through the ball and the man a little bit…then places like Goodison especially are going to be really tough to come and win.’

Lampard also said that Chelsea made too many mistakes which ultimately led to their downfall, ‘Yeah really poor mistake from us,’ said Lampard. ‘Kepa passes it straight to Theo and then there are two mistakes after that. We can’t defend like that. If ever there’s been a game in one package that shows how far we have to go then it’s today. We get into their box so many times and score one goal in the game, they get in our box a few times but with our own sloppiness, they score.

Chelsea is set to splash the cash in the January transfer window after the club was successful in overturning their two transfer ban and many of the players will be sweating over their long term futures at Chelsea.
