Former England manager Fabio Capello has stated that he would like to see Chelsea boss Frank Lampard take up the national team job one day.
The 41-year-old Lampard got off to a disastrous start as Blues manager suffering a 4-0 opening day defeat against Manchester United and the UEFA Super Cup loss against Liverpool but he has since steadied the ship and things are now looking great for the west London side.
Lampard has achieved what many believed to be impossible at the club following the departure of Belgian talisman Eden Hazard and enduring a transfer ban as well as promoting the youth while also playing some eye-catching football.
And following this impressive showing ex England manager Fabio Capello has now backed the young manager to become the England boss one day. The 73-year-old Italian was speaking to Sky Sports and explained his reasons as to why Lampard could manage the national team, “I don’t know [if he’ll become England manager]. [But] Probably…because he can do it. He understands everything and has started without fear and put young players on the pitch. I follow him. I watch all the games and I was upset when he started the season and he lost two games and the team didn’t play well. Now, the results are good and the position is really good and without the [transfer] market.”
The West London outfit and Lampard face a tough test this weekend in the Premier League when they travel to the Etihad Stadium to play against Manchester City. The current English champions are only one point behind the Blues on the Premier League table but that could change at the weekend.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City suffered a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool in their last Premier League game and will be keen on a repeat of last season’s result when they ran out 6-0 winners against the Stamford Bridge club.
