Batshuayi insists his future lies at Chelsea

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has insisted that his future lies at Stamford Bridge despite playing second fiddle to Tammy Abraham.

The Belgian international further expressed his “love” for Chelsea and a desire to stay and fight for a place in the team, rather than seek a move away in January.

The Belgian joined the Blues in 2016, but he has been sent out on loan three times in the last two seasons to Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace. The 26-year-old remained at Stamford Bridge in the summer despite being linked with a move on loan or a permanent move away and now the striker wants to remain at the club.

“I have never been a full-fledged starter, but Chelsea is my club, that’s where I feel at home,” said Batshuayi. “It’s a club I love deeply.”

“When I was young, it’s true that I had some problems with discipline,” he added. “But what young person doesn’t? Today, I’m 26 years old, I can channel myself and I work at training and in the game.

“I’m playful, but I choose my moments: at 0-0 I’m going to be serious, at 2 or 3-0 I’m going to play it up. Being cool is part of my personality.

“But it’s true: the pressure of football imposes the need to perform and win. The competition is raging, and seriousness is needed.”

Batshuayi has made 64 appearances for Chelsea, but he has only started 20 of them. Despite that, he has contributed 24 goals and six assists for the Blues overall.

He has five goals and an assist in 11 first-team appearances this season, of which he’s started two.  He also scored in Belgium’s recent UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against Kazakhstan as the Belgians ran out 2-0 winners.
