Chelsea’s hat-trick hero Christian Pulisic hailed his team-mates for helping him to adapt to life in the Premier League after scoring a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Burnley.
The United States international got just his fourth league start from Frank Lampard and repaid his manager with a dazzling performance and a perfect treble.
Pulisic scored with both feet for his opening two goals and collected his hat-trick with an impressive header.
The 21-year-old was so excited to have scored his first goals for Chelsea in his first league start since Aug. 31 that he almost forgot to take the match ball home after the game.
‘The first few months were definitely hard,’ he said to Sky Sports. ‘I had a few starts but then I’ve had to be patient. In the last few weeks, I’ve shown what I can do. I’ve then got a start and made the most of it, it’s been a really special day for me.
‘It takes time coming to a big new club and I’m happy with my progress so far, I didn’t expect things to happen overnight. My team-mates have been brilliant with me so far.’
Pulisic had failed to hit the ground running at Chelsea after finally joining from Borussia Dortmund, but he staked a strong claim for a first-team spot with a magnificent performance on Saturday.
The U.S. international became the youngest Chelsea player to score a Premier League hat trick, beating Tammy Abraham’s record that stood for just 42 days.
