Chelsea star Mason Mount expected that he would be out injured for a while after limping off the pitch in Chelsea’s 1-0 home defeat against Valencia in the Champions League. Mason Mount was the subject of a strong tackle by former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin.
Although initially it was initially suspected that Mount would be out for some time, he made a surprise return to the starting eleven on Saturday against Liverpool. A game in which Chelsea lost 2-1 after goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Firmino put the visitors in front but Chelsea will take pride from the performance especially in the second half.
Mason Mount had the chance to equalize late in the game but his left foot shot sailed over the bar, nonetheless, Mount has had a rapid start to the season, scoring three goals in six league appearances.
Speaking afterward, Mount insisted that he is now over the injury after feeling fine throughout the game.
‘As soon as I did it I thought it was going to be a long-term injury,’ Mount told Chelsea’s website. ‘But then I iced it and it calmed down and I realized it was not as bad as I first thought. The next day I was jogging on it a little and from then I knew there was a chance of me being involved [against Liverpool yesterday]. ‘There is still swelling there now but it is solid and I felt good and I trained the day before. I was pretty positive the day before the game that I would be involved.’
Mount is unlikely to feature in Chelsea’s next game when they take on Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday with Lampard likely to rotate the squad.
