Former Everton forward Tim Cahill has explained that new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is doing a great job considering the restrictions that he is facing at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea has not had a great start to the new season with the Frank Lampard era of management. The Blues suffered a horrendous 4-0 thrashing against Manchester United on the opening day of the Premier League and that was followed by a UEFA Super Cup loss against Liverpool. Chelsea then suffered a draw against Leicester City and finally got their first win of the season against Norwich City at Carrow Road. However, this weekend, Chelsea squandered a two-goal lead against Sheffield United to allow the newly-promoted side a point at Stamford Bridge.
With five points out of a possible 12, Chelsea has managed to win only one game this season in all competitions so far sitting 9th on the League table. But Chelsea lost their key player Eden Hazard in the summer transfer window as the Belgian made the move to the Santiago Bernabeu to join Real Madrid. The West London outfit also incurred a transfer ban which meant that they will not be able to sign any players for the next two transfer windows.
And Tim Cahill believes that Lampard is doing a great job so far despite the lack of results. The 39-year-old former Australian forward said, “Tim Cahill explained on Match of the Day that he believes the manager is doing a good job. I feel for Lampard, You look at some of the injuries he’s had to deal with, [Calum Hudson]-Odoi, [Callum] Loftus-Cheek, [N’Golo] Kante, Pedro, big characters, and on top of that he’s not been able to sign any new players. So what he’s emphasizing now with the players is his style, his philosophy. I feel like, for his first job in the Premier League, he’s doing a fantastic job. They’re conceding goals come the 67th or 68th minute, but I suppose he’ll fix that before the end of the season.”
