According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Chelsea have been handed another injury woe regarding midfielder Mateo Kovacic as he has withdrawn from the Croatian national team for the upcoming international break.
The Blues have not really managed a great start to the new season under new boss Frank Lampard as they have accumulated only five points out of a possible 12 in the Premier League and even lost the UEFA Super Cup against Liverpool.
The West London club recently hosted Sheffield United on Saturday but ended up throwing a two-goal lead against the newly-promoted club. However, Lampard has been dealt with another blow as his midfield gem Mateo Kovacic has suffered an inflamed Achilles tendon in his right leg during the game against Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.
Kovacic has started all but one out of the five games for Chelsea this season across all competitions but was subbed off the pitch after 84 minutes against Sheffield. It is understood that Kovacic has not suffered anything serious in terms of his injury but it is significant enough to keep him out of the clash against Azerbaijan and Slovakia for the Euro 2020 qualifiers during the international break.
The 25-year-old was the only player that Chelsea was able to sign in the summer transfer window despite being under a transfer ban. However, the Croatian midfielder has been vital for Lampard over the past few games and has been withdrawn from the national team squad but hopefully should be back in action soon enough for his club.
