The Premier League is 4 matchdays old and so far as expected Liverpool and Manchester City occupy the top two spots in the table. Liverpool and Manchester City are unbeaten in the league so far and it will take some doing for any team to beat them this season, but another team that are unbeaten so far this season are Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City, the foxes have been in imperious form with star players Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and Youri Tielemans in brilliant form, Leicester were the dark horses to break into the top six at the start of the season and have exceeded expectations by sitting at third spot in the league table.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is eleventh in the league table with only one win in four games. Chelsea drew at home against Sheffield United last Saturday at home and Lampard is under pressure with tough games against Wolves and Liverpool coming next after the international break.
When Lampard was appointed the manager of Chelsea, many pundits believed that Chelsea was better served to go for a more experienced coach in Brendan Rodgers, Rodgers famously fell short in winning the title with Liverpool during the 2013-14 season when Gerrard slipped in the 0-2 defeat against Chelsea. Rodgers likes his teams playing a possession-based passing game with the ball always moving,
A style that would fit well with what Chelsea fans and owner Abramovich want to see at Stamford Bridge,
He is also not afraid to give young players a chance as seen when he promoted Raheem Sterling to the first team at Liverpool. Frank Lampard has plenty of goodwill from the fans after his playing career at Chelsea but it may have been too early to appoint him after only a season as a manager at Championship side Derby County, Rodgers has plenty of managerial experience after spells at Watford, Swansea, Liverpool, and Celtic.
With the season only four games old it may be too early to judge Frank Lampard but with every defeat Chelsea suffer there will be a sense that Chelsea may have been better off going with a manager with more experience like Brendan Rodgers.
