Chelsea football club has confirmed that French star Tiemoue Bakayoko has officially joined Ligue 1 club AS Monaco on a season-long loan after his inability to impress at Chelsea.
Bakayoko admittedly arrived at Stamford Bridge from the French side back in the summer of 2017 after winning the Ligue 1 title with Monaco in a £40 million deal but his debut campaign was quite a disastrous one for the Blues.
The midfielder failed to adapt to the pace of the Premier League and wasn’t anywhere near what the Chelsea faithful expected when he joined the West London side. Last season, Bakayoko was sent out on loan to Serie A club AC Milan and he made 43 appearances for the Italians scoring one goal producing rather impressive displays at the San Siro.
But new Chelsea manager Frank Lampard already has a bunch of top quality defensive midfielder to pick from in the likes of Jorginho, N’golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic which might push Bakayoko further down the pecking order.
Therefore Chelsea has decided to send the 25-year-old out on loan once again this time to a familiar place at AS Monaco. Bakayoko spent thee seasons at Monaco racking up nearly 100 appearances for the club and he expressed his delight in returning to the club on a loan deal.
Upon signing his loan deal with Monaco Bakayoko spoke to the club;s official website and stated, “I am very happy to come back to AS Monaco, a club with which I keep fantastic memories, Since 2017, I had the opportunity to have two very good experiences with Chelsea and [AC] Milan. I hope to be able to integrate as quickly as possible in this collective, in an environment that I already know, and especially with the desire to bring to the group what I know how to make a good season.”
