David Datro Fofana, a gifted forward, wants to stay at the Bridge and play for Chelsea next season instead of being loaned out again to a different club.
Since becoming a part of Chelsea in 2023, the 20-year-old magical Fofana has struggled to book himself a regular spot in the group.
In the summer, Chelsea signed both Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku in the attacking department. Finally, forward Armando Broja also decided to remain at the club.
This made Fofana extra, so he was sent on loan to find more game time. So, Fofana first went on loan to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.
However, the results from that loan were relatively poor. He managed to score twice in 17 games there. Lack of production made Chelsea recall him in January before sending him to Premier League side Burnley.
Finally, at Burnley, Fofana started to find himself. He hit the net four times and set up one in 15 games in the Premier League, with 10 starts, but when Burnley dropped to the lower league, Fofana knew he wouldn’t stick with them.
Right after Burnley fell to the Championship because they lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur, Fofana made it clear he wanted to move to Chelsea next.

In an interview with Capital Football, he said, “I haven’t thought about it yet. I think I’ll go back and why not do the pre-season with Chelsea? I wanted to stay (in January) but some things happened. But for sure I have nothing to envy Nicolas Jackson, who is my friend.”
However, how realistic is it for Fofana to remain at Chelsea? With Jackson and Nkunku two of the preferred options of manager Maurico Pochettino, Fofana would have to fight for his place, and then there’s the obvious fact that Chelsea may want to sign a proven striker, but that plan may be derailed by finance.
One thing that can work in Fofana’s favor is the possible sale of Armando Broja. Chelsea can replace Broja—who wasn’t successful during his loan spell at Fulham—with Fofana, and the Blues won’t spend a dime.
On top of that, Fofana’s ability to play in any position in the attack can be good for Chelsea, who seemed to lack this type of attack depth in the 2023-24 season.
In conclusion, what happens to Fofana at Chelsea is still anyone’s guess. He has expressed his interest in remaining, but the fact remains whether he will be given a chance to prove himself at Stamford Bridge or will again be loaned out.
