Chelsea Departing Star Expresses Desire to Sign New Contract

Thiago Silva, who is one of the pillars of Chelsea’s defense, revealed that he would’ve liked to stay with the club during his contract extension only to finally choose to make a comeback to his former team, Fluminense, in Brazil.

His departure was announced with a heartfelt message recently after a four year term at the helm of the Stamford Bridge club. At Chelsea, Silva was playing an important role in winning the Champions League title in 2021, while also obtaining success in the European Super Cup and Club World Cup competitions.

Chelsea confirmed Silva’s move with Fluminense on Tuesday and announced that the experienced veteran had signed a 2-year contract that will start once their last game, against Bournemouth, has been completed. This is particularly momentous as it symbolizes a full circle of his senior career that started with Fluminense way back in 1998.

London World reports that Silva not only wished to stay at Chelsea a bit longer, but also wanted to put his signature under a new contract. Nevertheless, after a long negotiation it was decided that he would go back to Brazil and his children would continue to study at Chelsea’s academy.

Yet despite he wanted to stay in London, he respected the decision and looked forward to his first return to his former club.
