Chelsea starlet Ian Maatsen is in a situation of uncertainty regarding his future at Stamford Bridge, given that his contract is set to expire next summer.
Following a successful loan spell with Burnley in the Championship last season, the youngster came back to the Blues during the summer.
The 21-year-old player has encountered difficulties in securing a regular starting position under Mauricio Pochettino, having made only six appearances in the Premier League, none of which were as a starter.
Chelsea are aware of his contract situation and has reportedly offered him an extension, but failing that, they might consider selling him in January.
Even though he isn’t the first choice for Pochettino, Maatsen has demonstrated his quality in limited opportunities, particularly in cup matches against AFC Wimbledon and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The promising young talent remains part of the plans for the Netherlands national team, as coach Ronald Koeman has called him up for the last two international duties.
According to Sport, Maatsen’s current situation has drawn the interest of several top European clubs, including La Liga powerhouse Barcelona.
The Blaugrana are considering the defender as a potential addition to bolster their left-back position, especially with Marcos Alonso’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
The Catalan club intends to secure his services as a free transfer in the upcoming summer, but they are expected to face strong competition from various Premier League teams.
Both Manchester City and West Ham United have expressed their interest in signing the English star in the upcoming January transfer window.

Man City has cultivated a strong relationship with Chelsea in recent years, as exemplified by the transfers of players like Mateo Kovacic, Raheem Sterling, and Cole Palmer between the two clubs. City are now looking to capitalize on this connection by adding Maatsen to their squad.
It would be a tight race at the end and it depends on the Blues’ ability to tie the player to a new contract.
