Jorginho Might Get A New Position and Role Under Frank Lampard

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been mightily impressed with midfield gem Jorginho in the preseason training and has admitted that he could operate the 27-year-old in a different position for the upcoming season.

When Maurizio Sarri took charge of Chelsea football club nearly a year ago, the first player that the Italian wanted to bring with him from Napoli was Jorginho. The 60-year-old believed that the Brazilian born playmaker was the perfect player for his footballing style ‘Sarriball’ and lured him to Chelsea as well.

Jorginho’s arrival at Stamford Bridge caused a few other key players to change their gameplay and Sarri shifted their positions of a few players on the pitch. The Blues faithful weren’t too impressed neither pleased with the change in the formation and tactics of Sarri’s footballing style even though he guided the club to a third-place finish in the Premier League table and winning the Europa League at the end of the campaign.

But Sarri has left Chelsea to join Juventus this summer and Frank Lampard has taken over the reins at Stamford Bridge. The 41-year-old former English midfielder has already begun his work in preseason training and seems quite happy with the way things are going at the moment before the actual season begins.

Lampard was waxing lyrical about Jorginho in the preseason as he admired his work ethic and commitment and he explained, “Jorginho is a fantastic player. The one thing that has struck me about him from working with him in the last week and a bit is not just his quality on the ball. His attitude in training has been first class. He’s a driver of a session. He’s a voice. He runs, he pushes people around him, he drags people up when he doesn’t feel they’re working as much as he might want.  I’ve loved seeing that. So in terms of first impressions, working with him for 10 days, I can’t ask for anymore. I’m delighted to have him.”

The all-time top goalscorer for Chelsea also stated that he could deploy Jorginho at a different position on the pitch despite Sarri using his tactics and playing the Italian at the base of midfield insisting that his rules will now matter, “Jorginho became a conversation last year. I’ve been there as a player, sometimes things are out of your control and the conversation carries on very quickly without you, He played in one position and the manager had faith in him and it became something that was talked about, possibly too much. But I’m a new manager. I have new ideas. We might be more adaptable in the way we play. I might ask different things of Jorginho, of N’Golo Kante, of Ross Barkley, of anybody. I’m not stuck in a conversation from last year. I’m looking at a player who has very much impressed me over the last 10 days.”
