Chelsea refused to sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho this summer

During talks between Chelsea and Manchester United regarding a potential deal for Marc Cucurella, it has been revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that Chelsea were presented with the opportunity to sign Jadon Sancho.

United expressed interest in securing the services of the Spanish full-back during the summer transfer window, especially after an injury to Luke Shaw left them looking to strengthen their squad.

As per the journalist, United proposed a player-swap deal involving Sancho for the former Brighton & Hove Albion defender.

Ultimately, the Red Devils couldn’t come to an agreement with Chelsea for Cucurella, and the Blues declined the opportunity to acquire Sancho.

Instead, United secured the signing of Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the transfer window.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino’s team made a surprising move by signing Cole Palmer from Manchester City. Despite being highly-rated at City, Palmer chose to join Chelsea in pursuit of regular playing time at the age of 21.

Sancho, signed by Man United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, has struggled to find his footing in the Premier League, falling short of the standards he set in Germany.

Recently, United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, left Sancho out of the squad for games against Arsenal, citing his performance in training as the reason.

In response, Sancho took to social media to express his belief that he has been unfairly singled out at United. This situation adds an intriguing dynamic to the relationship between the English winger and the Dutch manager.

Meanwhile, at Chelsea, there is already a surplus of talent in the forward positions. The Blues’ primary need lies in having a prolific goal scorer, so there was no requirement to bring in an out-of-form winger like Sancho.
