Montpellier turn down Chelsea’s £24 million bid for Elye Wahi

As reported by Football London, Montpellier have turned down Chelsea’s £24 million bid for their star striker Elye Wahi.

The 20-year-old player is eager for the two clubs to reach an agreement that would enable him to move to Stamford Bridge through Chelsea’s partner club, Strasbourg.

Chelsea are anticipated to secure a season-long loan deal for Montpellier striker Wahi, following their agreement to let winger Angelo Gabriel leave on a temporary basis after the pre-season tour in the United States.

The recently acquired club under the BlueCo group is now under the management of Patrick Vieira, aligning with Chelsea’s broader strategy of a multi-club approach.

Former Chelsea target, Arsen Zakharyan, is currently in discussions regarding a potential transfer to Strasbourg. However, Lazio is considered to be the front-runner in the race to sign the midfielder.

Although Wahi may not be considered ready for the Blues at the moment, he showcased an exceptional performance in the previous season, scoring 19 goals and providing six assists in 33 games. His outstanding displays have drawn attention and made him a promising prospect for the future.

Mauricio Pochettino had considered the possibility of signing a striker for the team. However, he has been impressed by the performances of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson during the pre-season tour in the United States.

As a result, the club is now leaning towards sticking with their current options, especially with the impending return of Armando Broja, who is recovering from a knee injury.

Broja is optimistic about participating in Chelsea’s last pre-season match against Dortmund. However, the medical staff is being cautious to prevent any risk of re-injury.

Following the match against Dortmund, Chelsea’s final fixture in the Premier League Summer Series will be against Fulham in Washington DC.
