Chelsea’s young goalkeeper, Gabriel Slonina, is set to begin an exciting new chapter in Belgium. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old is close to finalizing a one-year loan move to KAS Eupen, a Belgian club.
The young goalkeeper caught the attention of Chelsea’s coaching staff during their pre-season tour in the United States.
Despite making a positive impression, his chances of getting enough playing time are limited at Stamford Bridge, where Kepa Arrizabalaga is the primary goalkeeper.
Chelsea acquired Slonina from Chicago Fire for a £7.7 million transfer fee last summer. However, the agreement specified that he would remain with the American side until January 1 before officially joining then Premier League giants.

During the previous season, he featured in eight Premier League 2 matches for the London club.
Slonina’s decision to go on loan to KAS Eupen is a well-thought-out move, aiming to gain valuable experience in a competitive league against seasoned professionals.
His journey so far has been remarkable, as he became the youngest starting goalkeeper in MLS history while playing for Chicago.

While Slonina focuses on his development, Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation remains a concern, with many doubting Arrizabalaga’s abilities to meet the required standard.
Initially, Chelsea seemed poised to seek a new number-one goalkeeper this summer, but their attention has shifted towards Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, delaying any potential goalkeeper signings.
