Tottenham Hotspur looking to sign Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella

According to reports from the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in signing Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella during the current transfer window.

Spurs are seeking a replacement for Ivan Perisic in their squad as the Croatian player is expected to depart after spending just one season at the club following his move from Inter Milan last summer.

Chelsea, who paid over £60 million to acquire Cucurella from Brighton just 12 months ago, are actively seeking to offload the player during the current transfer window.

The Spanish defender’s first season at the club was highly disappointing. However, it was recently revealed that the 24-year-old has expressed his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge and compete for a place in the team under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea have explored potential buyers from Saudi Arabia, and there was speculation about interest from Atletico Madrid, which Cucurella’s agent dismissed as false.

The versatile defender, capable of playing as a left-sided centre-back in a three-man defence or as a left-back in a four-man defence, struggled throughout last season. He faced difficulties defensively and even received boos from home fans on occasion.

Despite Chelsea’s significant investment in Cucurella a year ago, it seems peculiar that they are willing to let go of the player after just one season. However, this is a common occurrence in modern football, highlighting the ruthless nature of the industry.

Selling Cucurella to Tottenham, in this case, may not be a cause for concern, as the player didn’t make a significant impact during his time at Chelsea.

It is hoped that he can have a successful career at Spurs, except when facing the Blues, of course. The transfer fee will play a crucial role in this potential deal.

While it may be unrealistic to expect Tottenham to pay the same amount Chelsea did last year, Cucurella’s value still merits a significant percentage of that fee.
