Chelsea set to resume talks this week to decide Moises Caicedo’s transfer fee

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea is determined to resume talks this week to decide on Moises Caicedo’s transfer fee.

The club may engage in new discussions with Brighton, as their previous £60 million offer was rejected two weeks ago. Mauricio Pochettino views the Ecuadorian midfielder as a top priority, but the two parties are far from reaching an agreement on the transfer.

Caicedo has been a subject of much discussion in recent weeks, with updates from Fabrizio Romano providing insight into the situation. It is evident that Chelsea is highly interested in acquiring the 21-year-old midfielder for Stamford Bridge.

Despite signing an improved contract with Brighton, Caicedo’s departure from the club was always anticipated. During the January transfer window, both Chelsea and Arsenal had their bids rejected by the Seagulls, with the latter offering approximately £70 million.

There were indications that Brighton might consider accepting a similar or slightly higher offer, possibly around £75 million.

However, there is considerable uncertainty surrounding the valuation of Caicedo, with various reports suggesting different figures, ranging from £80 million to £120 million.

Brighton’s intentions regarding the transfer fee are still unclear, but Chelsea currently leads the race for his signature.

Initially, Arsenal was seen as the frontrunner and expected to pursue the highly-rated midfielder valued at over £80 million. However, Gunner’s focus has shifted to prioritizing a move for Declan Rice, giving the Blues a clearer path to secure Caicedo.

Manchester United has also expressed interest and wants to stay informed about the situation. Chelsea needs to swiftly finalize a deal and fend off their rivals in order to prevent any issues ahead.

Recent reports mentioned a £60 million bid from Chelsea being rejected by Brighton, who are holding out for a higher fee. The West Londoners’ compliance with Financial Fair Play regulations has made it challenging for them to submit another firm offer.

Nevertheless, media reports indicate that they may engage in fresh negotiations with the midfielder’s club to facilitate the transfer.

While Chelsea currently appears as the frontrunner, there is still a threat from Arsenal, especially if Thomas Partey were to depart and provide them with additional funds to pursue Caicedo alongside a potential signing of Rice.

Therefore, the Blues must swiftly reach an agreement with Brighton, considering the player’s desire to join Stamford Bridge.
