Chelsea intensify their attempt to sign Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea is intensifying its efforts to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana following his impressive performance in the Champions League Final.

The newly appointed head coach of Chelsea is keen on securing a new number-one goalkeeper this summer, with Onana being their preferred choice.

The Italian giants are reportedly demanding a fee of at least £50 million for the 27-year-old goalkeeper, as they look to address their financial challenges by selling him.

After initial discussions held between the two clubs in April, it is now expected that further talks will take place regarding the potential transfer. Despite Onana’s strong performance, he was unable to prevent Inter Milan’s 1-0 loss against Manchester City in the Champions League Final.

The Cameroonian keeper has garnered attention from Chelsea and Manchester United after an impressive performance in the Champions League Final.

Onana made notable saves against Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne in the first half but couldn’t prevent Rodri’s winning goal in the second half.

Pep Guardiola recently praised Onana for his exceptional footwork. Now, the keeper would be eager to settle his future, and Chelsea remains an appealing option.

Additionally, alternatives include Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, Gregor Kobel from Dortmund, and David Raya from Brentford.

It is believed that Mamardashvili is Chelsea’s second-choice goalkeeper target, potentially joining Kepa Arrizabalaga, as Edouard Mendy is expected to be sold during the summer.

Although Chelsea considered AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan, his asking price of £80 million deterred their plans.

The Blues has a positive relationship with Inter, as demonstrated by loaning Romelu Lukaku back to the Italian club and signing young midfielder Cesare Casadei for £16 million last year.

Lukaku, who missed a late opportunity in the Champions League Final, is scheduled for discussions regarding his future with Chelsea.

While Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his willingness to work with the Belgian striker, it remains uncertain if the £97.5 million striker will be part of his plans.
