Chelsea have reportedly opened negotiations to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia with the Blues eyeing a midfield rebuild over the summer.
Lavia was targeted by the Blues last year and the Stamford Bridge camp are gearing up to revive their interest in the £50m-rated starlet who was one of the few standout performers in the Southampton shirt last season.
According to a recent report from football.london, it is claimed that Chelsea have begun talks with Southampton to bring Lavia to the Bridge this summer as the south coast outfit are expected to sell several players following their relegation to the Championship.
A move for the ex-Manchester City talent Lavia could come on the back of Chelsea losing two key midfield stalwarts – N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic – with the latter closing in on signing for the Premier League champions Manchester City.
Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek could also be in line to call it quits in the English capital with the former said to be on the radar of Manchester United who are hopeful of striking an agreement with Chelsea on a knockdown transfer fee.
