Borussia Dortmund are said to be confident of signing Chelsea’s long standing target Edson Alvarez a year after the midfielder’s move to the Bridge failed to materialise.
The Mexico international midfielder was determined to sign for Chelsea last summer when the Stamford Bridge camp had shown a strong interest in his services towards the end of the summer transfer window.
According to a report from 90min, Chelsea are all but certain to lose out on their transfer target Alvarez with Bundesliga title hopefuls Borussia Dortmund in pole position to secure the Ajax man’s signature.
Chelsea have been tipped to dip into the market this summer for fresh faces to reinforce their engine room with the likes of Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher and Mateo Kovacic linked with moves elsewhere.
While Mount has emerged as a top target for Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of the summer window, Kovacic’s contract situation has alerted Bayern Munich who brought in former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel earlier this year.
