Chelsea told to fork out more than £40 million to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya

Chelsea have been told to fork out more than £40 million to sign rumoured summer target Brentford goalkeeper David Raya by the Bees head coach Thomas Franke.

The Spanish shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window with Raya’s future in the Brentford shirt hanging in the balance.

He is out of contract at the Gtech Community Stadium come the end of next season and has turned down multiple offers to extend his stay with the Bees putting his big name suitors on alert.

Chelsea are expected to go shopping this summer for a new No.1 with current first team options – Kepa and Edouard Mendy – likely to be shown the exit door as the Blues will be looking to overhaul their squad after a disappointing season.

As quoted by a report from the Evening Standard, Brentford manager Thomas Franke admitted that Raya could leave the club but the interested parties were issued a warning of his ‘£40 million -plus’ price tag.

“There is no doubt that David (Raya) is a case where there is one year left and we will see what will happen. We’re very happy with David here.

“Everyone knows he is a £40m-plus goalkeeper if anyone is interested and we are prepared just like in any position.

“There is a possibility he’ll leave this summer maybe, for the right price, and if that happens then of course we need to be prepared.”
