According to Football London, Premier League giants Chelsea have submitted a €45 million bid to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this season.
Lavia left Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in 2022 and since then he has been one of the top midfielders in the Premier League this season. Barcelona and Real Madrid are among those who have also expressed interest in the midfielder’s performances.
The young Belgian is being targeted by Chelsea, who are trying to lure him by the prospect of giving him an offer to play under rumored manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Lavia has played 31 times for the Saints in various competitions this season. However, the club are stuck at the bottom of the League and are doomed to relegation barring a miracle.
Lavia is expected to leave the club during the forthcoming transfer window, and Chelsea will make every effort to change the situation in their favor.
Given the difficulties Aurelien Tchouameni encountered in his debut season with Los Blancos, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez set his sights on Lavia.
The young player was also observed by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who saw in him a suitable substitute for Sergio Busquets. But, Chelsea appears to be in control of the situation.
According to reports, new manager Pochettino has asked Blues owner Todd Boehly to spend big money to sign Romeo Lavia. The Argentine thinks N’Golo Kante’s uncertain contract status makes Lavia the ideal replacement.
It will be difficult to complete the deal as Southampton is firm about their asking price, which is thought to be in the region of €45 million—nearly four times what they paid Manchester City last summer.
