Mauricio Pochettino emerges as the new front-runner for the Chelsea job

Mauricio Pochettino has now emerged as the new front-runner for the Chelsea job after previous favourite Julian Nagelsmann dropped out of the running.

The former Bayern Munich boss Nagelsmann was seen as the first choice name on Chelsea’s shortlist to become Graham Potter’s permanent successor at the Bridge this summer when the caretaker manager Frank Lampard leaves.

According to a report from The Guardian, with Nagelsmann bowing out of the race for the Blues top job, Mauricio Pochettino is edging closer to the Stamford Bridge hot seat after he impressed in talks with the Chelsea hierarchy this week.

Discussions with the Argentine coach, who has the experience managing Premier League teams Southampton and Spurs, are believed to have been more advanced than at least one of the other candidates considered by Chelsea.

Chelsea would be eager to wrap up talks with the new front-runner Pochettino after recent claims have suggested that Nagelsmann’s withdrawal from the race to become the next Chelsea manager has come as a setback to co-owner Todd Beohly.
