Xavi opens up about Barcelona starlet Gavi drawing interest from Chelsea

Xavi opened up about his Barcelona starlet Gavi drawing interest from Chelsea who are keen on landing the promising midfielder ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

The 18-year-old Spain international has grown into a top quality player in the centre of the park and speculation of late has been rife over his future in the Barcelona shirt beyond the end of the season.

Gavi’s newly signed senior contract with Barcelona was rescinded by La Liga due to the Catalan outfit’s financial woes and Gavi’s current youth deal is due to expire in the summer and he would be fee to leave on a free transfer.

Chelsea, who remain on the search for a fresh pair of legs to bolster their engine room, have been credited with a strong interest in the teenage talent with Todd Beohly keen to partner his record signing Enzo Fernandez with Gavi.

When asked about Chelsea’s links with Gavi in his pre-match presser ( via 90min) ahead of Barcelona locking horns with Getafe, the Catalan team’s manager Xaxi insisted that Gavi would be intent on staying put at Camp Nou.

I don’t think Gavi would be happy at a different club,” Xavi insisted.

“He has everything here at 18 and is an important player for the team. I think his future is here at the club.”
