Chelsea want to use loanee Romelu Lukaku as a makeweight to sign Tammy Abraham this summer with the English striker poised for a return to the Bridge.
Abraham has fallen out of favour with the AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho and the latter is willing to give his nod for Abraham’s sale later this year with Chelsea keen to re-sign the Three Lions frontman.
According to a report from the Italian publication Calciomercato, it is claimed that the Blues, who are believed to have a buy-back clause in the region of £68 million, are mulling over sending Romelu Lukaku in the opposite direction to sign Abraham.
Lukaku is set to return to Chelsea in the summer from his season-long loan spell with Inter Milan who have decided against making the Belgian’s transfer to San Siro a permanent one following his recurring injury troubles this campaign.
Graham Potter, however, is unlikely to retain Lukaku’s services heading into the start of the next season and the former Manchester United and Everton forward would be deemed surplus to requirements.
