Chelsea are looking to table a new deal for their in-demand midfielder Mateo Kovacic who is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of next season.
The Croatian international has spent five seasons in the Blues shirt but recent reports have indicated that a move away from west London could be on the cards for the former Real Madrid maestro.
Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Kovacic’s signature as Jurgen Klopp’s side are out to rebuild their midfield ranks before the next season gets underway after a disappointing campaign at Anfield this term.
According to a report from teamTALK, it is claimed that the Blues camp are hopeful that talks with Kovacic over a new contract lead to the midfielder extending his stay in the English capital beyond the summer of 2024.
Chelsea have decided against signing the on-loan Denis Zakaria on a permanent basis this summer with Graham Potter likely to look at other options in the market to freshen things up in the engine room for his side.
