According to the latest reports, The Blues are set to make a bid for Juventus central defender Daniele Rugani in the January winter transfer window.
Chelsea suffered their second defeat in four games as the West London club was recently humiliated 2-1 by Nuno Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers which highlighted that Maurizio Sarri still has some issues to fix up if his side is to compete for the Premier League title.
Rugani’s agent Davide Torchia has sparked rumors of his client possibly moving to Stamford Bridge in the upcoming transfer window. The 24-year-old defender has not really gotten enough game time at Turin managing just three appearances in the Serie A because of the solid performances put in by Leonardo Bonucci and Gorgio Chiellini at the heart of Juventus’s defense.
Rugani’s current deal with Juventus is set to expire in the summer of 2021 but there are reports emerging that the Serie A champions are planning to extend the young defender’s contract until 2023. However, earlier this month Rugani’s agent, Torchia flew into the English capital in order to hold talks with Chelsea regarding a possible transfer.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has previously worked with the young defender at Empoli and wants to a reunion with Rugani at Stamford Bridge. Rugani was one of Sarri’s prime transfer targets in the summer, but the Italian giants were reluctant to allow the talented superstar to leave the club. However, according to the recent reports, Juventus are prepared to allow Rugani to leave the club for an offer over £25 million.
David Luiz’ contract is set to expire in the summer and Chelsea could do well with a replacement like Rugani in for the Brazilian. Having played under Sarri before, it should not be too difficult for Rugani to adapt to the nature of the Premier League as we have seen Jorginho take the English league by storm.
