N’golo Kante Seems Happy With His New Role

Blues midfielder N’golo Kante has revealed that he is not unhappy with his new position given by Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri.

Kante has proved to be one of the best defensive midfielders in the world over the past few seasons and has played major roles in two Premier League title wins and a World Cup victory in the summer. But Chelsea boss Sarri feels the 27-year-old cannot fulfill that role in his system, instead plumping for Jorginho in front of the back line. As a result, Kante has used in a more advanced role this season for Chelsea in midfield, a tactical move that has been widely come under criticism by former players and pundits.

Speaking in a Post-match interview after the 2-0 victory over Fulham, Kante told Chelsea’s official website: “I like this position. The manager has given me the confidence to play this position since the beginning of the season. I am trying to do my best and I will get better at it, and I hope to have success in it this year.

Kante, who stole the ball off Jean Michael Seri in the build-up to Pedro’s early opener at the weekend explained his role in detail and what Sarri expects of him, “It was the order from the manager to press them. I saw there was an opportunity to press, I took the ball and passed to Pedro who used great skill and hit a good shot.”

The Blues were far off their brilliant best against relegation-battlers Fulham, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek eased any nerves with a second-half goal. Kante went on to add that the match was not easy but still Chelsea deserved to beat their local London rivals, “The feeling is that it was not an easy match. Fulham are returning to form and it was sometimes complicated, but scoring quickly was important. They had a couple of chances, but we were able to score again and make the end of the match easier. We deserved to win.”

Kante has been one of the biggest game-changing individuals in the Premier League over the past few years, and his role has seen him vault to superstardom because that good at it. And while he has struggled a bit in a more forward role this season, he is good enough to overcome the difficulties and excel there as well. One just needs to be patient in that regard.
