Chelsea tipped to step up their pursuit of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

Chelsea are tipped to step up their pursuit of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana with the Blues out to reinforce their midfield ranks in the final week of the January transfer window.

The prospect of relegation looms over the Merseyside outfit who recently handed the sack to Frank Lampard after a horrid run of results and now the managerless Toffees could be in line to lose two of their first-team regulars.

While the promising attacking talent Anthony Gordon, who was linked with a move to Chelsea last summer, is eyed up by Newcastle United, Graham Potter’s Blues are weighing up a swoop for Everton midfielder Onana.

According to a report from The Times, it is claimed that the Blues are keen to move in for the Belgium international despite Everton said to be reluctant to green-light his move away from Goodison Park where he joined only last summer.

Chelsea have turned to alternatives in the market in their search for a new midfield recruit after being put off by Brighton’s hefty valuation of Moises Caicedo and breakdown in talks with Benfica over signing Enzo Fernandez.
