Chelsea are looking likely to reignite their interest in Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez after failing to sign him earlier in the January transfer window.
The Argentina midfielder, who was awarded the Best Young Player accolade at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, was subject to serious interest from the Chelsea camp this month with the west Londoners in the market for a new midfield signing.
Graham Potter’s Blues were understood to have agreed upon a £112 million deal with Benfica and personal terms with the player but talks between the two clubs soon turned sour which blocked a move to Stamford Bridge for the 21-year-old.
According to a report from the Portuguese outlet Record, it is claimed that Chelsea are now readying a mega-money bid to convince Benfica to green-light the transfer before the deadline on January 31.
Chelsea’s need to reinforce their options in the centre of the park could gain urgency in the coming days with the club all but certain to lose two veterans N’Golo Kante and Jorginho in the summer upon the expiry of their contracts.
