Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Joao Felix on loan until the end of the season with the attacker joining Graham Potter’s Blues from Atletico Madrid.
The 23-year-old had been eyed up by the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal ahead of the January window but has now made the move to Stamford Bridge for the second half of the 2022-23 campaign.
A statement from the club’s official website has announced the arrival of Felix who has voiced his delight upon linking up with Chelsea following his unveiling as a Chelsea player on Thursday.
‘Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge.’
The Portugal international, who enjoyed a stellar campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup during his country’s run to the quarter-finals, becomes the fourth signing of the January window for Chelsea after Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana.
Adding a fresh pair of legs to their front line options had been a priority for Potter with Chelsea’s signings of last summer in Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang failing to impress.
