Barcelona are understood to be plotting a challenge to Chelsea’s plans of signing Bruno Guimaraes after a failed pursuit of Manchester City ace Bernardo Silva.
Guimaraes has been an impressive performer for the high-flying Newcastle United this season and the Brazilian midfielder has courted interest from Premier League giants Chelsea in the process.
With the new Blues head coach Graham Potter dealing with a long-term injury setback to his midfield general N’Golo Kante, the 26-year-old Guimaraes is rumoured to have emerged on the Stamford Bridge camp’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.
Despite signing for the Magpies in a £35 million deal last January, Guimaraes’s future at St. James’ Park hangs in the balance with La Liga heavyweights Barcelona joining the chase for his coveted signature, according to a report from The Sun.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are open to handing him a new £200,000-a-week deal to tie the first-team regular down to extended terms as Eddie Howe plans to rebuff bids coming his way to sanction the sale of Guimaraes.
