Chelsea close to appointing Red Bull Salzburg chief Christian Freund as sporting director

Chelsea are said to be close to appointing Red Bull Salzburg chief Christian Freund as their sporting director and working out the transfer policy at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ new co-owner Todd Boehly has been keen to bring in a new sporting director after conducting Chelsea’s summer business and the subsequent appointment of Graham Potter as the new head coach.

According to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, it is claimed that Chelsea are in line to seal an agreement on personal terms with Christoph Freund who has earned much praise for his deals at Salzburg in recent times.

Todd Boehly has been hard at work in ringing in the changes at the Bridge following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel with the German coach handed the axe after Chelsea’s shaky start to the new campaign.

Graham Potter was signed from Brighton with the 47-year-old pipping the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane to become the first Chelsea manager under Boehly’s ownership reign.
