Everton opens talks for contract renewal with Chelsea target Anthony Gordon

Everton have opened talks for contract renewal with Chelsea target Anthony Gordon in a setback for the Blues in their pursuit of the Goodison Park starlet.

Gordon was a top name on Chelsea’s shopping list for the summer transfer window but a move for the 21-year-old attacker failed to materialise with Everton refusing to budge on the pricing demands to sanction his sale.

The Toffees boss Frank Lampard was quick to turn down two bids from Chelsea who were keen to land Gordon’s signature and bolster their front line after snapping up Manchester City frontman Raheem Sterling earlier in the summer.

According to a report from The Daily Express, it is claimed that Everton are in line to touch base with Gordon and his camp over improved terms on his current deal with the youngster having penned a five-year contract back in September 2020.

The £60m-rated forward is one of the key players for Lampard at Goodison Park and it is unlikely that the manager will be forced into accepting a bid for Gordon anytime soon should the renewal not hit a roadblock.
