Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly in a £33 million deal with the Senegal centre-back making the move to Stamford Bridge from Serie A giants Napoli.
The 31-year-old had been earmarked as a top name on the shopping list for Thomas Tuchel who wanted to bring in quality centre-backs to bolster a depleted defensive roster at his disposal.
According to a report from The Evening Standard, Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of Koulibaly on a four-year contract with the Senegalese international set to pocket an £8m-per-year wage with a further £1m available in bonuses.
Koulibaly becomes the second signing of the new Chelsea ownership led by Todd Boehly as the defender follows Raheem Sterling into Stamford Bridge in this summer’s transfer window just days after the latter put pen to paper on a long-term deal.
It remains to be seen whether the Chelsea head coach Tuchel will dip again into the market for another defensive signing with the Blues losing two key first-team regulars in Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
