Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele is set to put pen to paper on a new deal with Barcelona to extend his stay with the Catalan giants beyond this summer.
The French international winger had been one of the top names on the shopping list in the ongoing summer window for the Chelsea gaffer Thomas Tuchel who is looking to reinforce his forward lineup by bringing in fresh faces.
Dembele’s drawn-out contract impasse at Camp Nou had put Chelsea on high alert with Tuchel, who has worked with the player before at Dortmund, keen to move in for his signature on a free transfer and land a quality signing.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, however, Chelsea appear certain to miss out on another of Tuchel’s priority targets for the summer with Dembele closing in on an extension with Barcelona which would run until June 2024.
Some respite on the transfer front for Chelsea could be the rumours gaining ground that the west London giants are set to sign English attacker Raheem Sterling from Manchester City after Chelsea’s offer was accepted by the Etihad camp.
