Leicester drew first blood in the early exchanges of the opening period with James Maddison robbing Alonso of the ball and curling his finish past Edouard Mendy to give Brendan Rodger’s men a vital lead.

Trevoh Chalobah nearly levelled the affair minutes later with the central defender drawing a frantic save from Kasper Schmeichel who tipped the ball over the bar.

The equaliser finally came for the home side with Alonso’s first-time volley making it 1-1 following Reece James teeing up his fellow wing-back with a chipped pass.

Both teams had to settle for the scoreline heading into the halftime break despite Leicester threatening to restore their advantage after Alonso’s effort.

The second period saw Chelsea turn dominant in the attacking third but to no avail as Kasper Schmeichel stood his ground to deny Hakim Ziyech twice in quick succession.

Tuchel rang in changes from the bench for his side in the hopes of turning the game in Chelsea’s favour as Leicester put out a solid defensive display to secure a point from their travels to the English capital.
