Rio Ferdinand sums up why Real Madrid need Reece James

Former England and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand firmly believe that James is destined for great things in football.

The England right-back has many followers in the country as well as in the European market with the latest club in Real Madrid who are monitoring his situation.

The 22-year-old has been pulling up trees for the Blues since his breakthrough season in 2020-21 as he has constantly put up 7 & 8 out of 10 performances in a Chelsea shirt.

Despite Carlo Ancelotti winning the La Liga title with the Los Blancos, the Italian manager wants to strengthen his right-back spot and sees James as the ideal candidate, as per MARCA.

The youngster has named himself on the list of some young emerging players in the Premier League including the likes of Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden.

Having said that Ferdinand has spoken highly about Chelsea’s youth product in his famous Vibe with Five podcast claiming that the full-back has everything that it takes to become a world-class player.

“I just think the importance that he has in this team, when he doesn’t play in that team now they miss him massively. He has a massive impact in that team. I watched him at Old Trafford the other day, he was treating some Man United players like boys. That’s how good he is, how comfortable he looks now.”

“I’ve seen him on loan at Wigan playing centre-back, playing in midfield. He’s so versatile. His passing range is off the charts. Just his all-round general play, the composure, the physicality, his defending one-v-one. I think he’s got everything.”

Due to Dani Carvajal’s advancing years, Ancelotti will be looking to recruit a player to the right-back position to provide more choices.

The 13-time Champions League winners are currently working on a major project, and with Chelsea’s future doubtful, James will be among the players that leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.
