Reece Burke gave Luton Town the most unexpected of starts with a glancing header opening the scoring for the home side inside 102 seconds.

The Blues were put on the back foot after the early opener and looked to bring the scoreline level which materialised when Saul Niguez got on the scoresheet in the 27th minute.

Saul’s fine curling effort turned out to be the equaliser of much importance to the visitors who had to deal with a spirited Luton side who were creating trouble on all fronts.

A brilliant play from the hosts set up Harry Cornick for Luton’s second goal of the game which meant that they went into the half time break with a one-goal lead.

Timo Werner slotted home the second equaliser of the evening for Chelsea with the German striker teed up by Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s sublime pass.

Loftus-Cheek’s brilliance was once again on show as the midfielder combined with the goalscorer Werner to ensure Romelu Lukaku’s strike that made it 3-2 for Chelsea with a little more than 10 minutes left to play for.
