Palace looked to threaten early on in the English capital showdown but it was Chelsea who nearly got the opening goal from Antonio Rudiger’s screamer of a strike.

The centre-back lined up a shot from a fair distance out and had Palace shot-stopper Vicente Guaita scrambling to make an important save.

Chelsea tested the home side before the half time break but Palace had Wilfried Zaha through on goal only to put his effort wide of the goal.

Both teams did not enjoy the best of chances when the game restarted but the hosts had their man between the sticks Guaita coming off the pitch with Jack Butland coming on to replace him.

Tuchel, in the hopes of his side getting the coveted opening goal with less than 25 minutes left to play for, rang in changes from the bench as Marcos Alonso, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were all introduced.

A VAR check disallowed a Hakim Ziyech strike in the final stages of the game but the Moroccon was clinical just moments later when Marcos Alonso floated in a delivery for the former to slot into the back of the net and win the game for the Blues.
