Chelsea have been handed a fresh blow on the injury front with playmaker Mason Mount set to be sidelined for the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.
The England international was forced off the pitch around the half-hour mark in Chelsea’s 2-1 Club World Cup final victory over Brazilian side Palmeries with a recurrence of his ankle injury.
Reports from The Times claim that Mount could be in line to sit out Chelsea’s forthcoming Champions League Last-16 first leg tie against Lille as well as the Carabao Cup matchup with Liverpool later this month.
Thomas Tuchel’s Blues square up against Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders at Wembley on February 27 and Mount is not expected to work his way to full fitness levels in time for the high-billed outing in the English capital.
The Chelsea manager Tuchel, meanwhile, would be hopeful of a sooner than expected return to the fold for his star attacker Mount who has been a regular on the team sheet for the west Londoners so far this campaign.
