Thomas Tuchel insisted his under-fire Chelsea side remained in the mix for the Premier League crown despite recent results suggesting the contrary.
Chelsea sit 13 points behind the runaway leaders Manchester City in the standings following a 1-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s men over the past weekend on the road to the defending champions of the land.
Ahead of a must-win outing against Brighton in the midweek contest for Tuchel’s men, the Chelsea boss admitted in the pre-match presser that in spite of Manchester City’s upbeat form of late, his players will not give up the hopes of challenging for the top flight crown.
“To not focus on our problem, we have to simply admit that City is in a very strong place with the points they have and have gathered in the last twelve matches.
“They earn what they have and this is first of all important to admit.
“The second thing is we will never give up. Never, never until the race is over. We are in the middle of the race, maybe not anymore, but we are still in the race and we just have to take our place.”
The upcoming Brighton clash will be looked forward to by the Chelsea fans who are awaiting a return to winning ways from their team that had been tipped as serious challengers for the title.
Injury troubles for star first-team names in the Blues camp have proven a setback for Tuchel who has had to deal with the controversy surrounding his summer signing Romelu Lukaku’s highly controversial interview in the recent past.
