Chelsea are yet to open talks with Everton for the transfer of French full-back Lucas Digne who has emerged on Thomas Tuchel’s radar in the English capital.
The Blues are on the hunt for reinforcements at the back to provide cover for Ben Chilwell who is likely to be sidelined for what remains of the campaign with a long-term injury layoff.
Digne is believed to be a top name on the shopping list at Stamford Bridge with the defender out-of-favour at Everton and his fall down the pecking order could convince him to demand a move elsewhere.
Tuchel’s Blues are credited with a strong interest in Digne’s signature but are yet to touch base with the Everton camp, according to the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has shot down the player’s recent links with Newcastle United.
The Magpies will splash the cash in the January transfer window that is now underway on the back of their newfound riches under the new ownership but are expected to steer clear of Digne, claims Romano.
