The visitors struck early as Sadio Mane made the most of Trevoh Chalobah’s lapse of judgement to go around Edouard Mendy and find the back of the net.
Liverpool were in full flow going forward and soon had another on the scoresheet to show for their dominance with former Chelsea man Mohamed Salah making it 2-0.
A comeback was on the cards for the home side, however, just ahead of the halftime whistle with Mateo Kovacic scoring a fantastic dipping volley which Liverpool goalie Caoimhin Kelleher had no chance to keep out.
Christian Pulisic found the leveller in added time with the American international ensuring a convincing finish past Kelleher as the scoreline served up 2-2 heading into the break.
The second half in the English capital showdown largely saw either side look for the much-needed breakthrough but to no avail with both defences on top.
Pulisic had a half-volley effort from close range which was denied in a superb manner by Liverpool’s goalkeeper Kelleher who put out an important save to keep his side in the reckoning.
Antonio Rudiger headed wide from a set piece as Thomas Tuchel’s men secured a hard-earned yet well-deserved point from the much-awaited league meeting.
