Newcastle United could hijack Chelsea’s plans to sign the France international wing-back Lucas Digne from Everton in the January window.
The Magpies were taken over by the Saudi Public Investment Fund in the backend of last year and there is speculation that the new-found wealth will convince them to make major moves in the transfer market.
Digne is one name who has been subject to much talk heading into the turn of the year with Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea camp eyeing up reinforcements at the back to make up for Ben Chilwell’s long-term layoff.
The Chelsea boss is keen on making a move for the Everton outcast Digne but will have Newcastle United posting a tough challenge with reports from ESPN claiming that the Magpies are very much in the fray to land a new defensive signing come January.
Serie A duo Inter Milan and Napoli are also credited with an interest in Digne’s signature despite suggestions that the Frenchman will be more inclined towards staying put in England’s top flight.
