Thomas Tuchel confirmed that midfield maestro N’Golo Kante will play no part in the forthcoming EFL Cup tie on Wednesday night away at Brentford.
Kante was rushed into action on Sunday against Wolves despite his extended spell on the sidelines of late with a knee injury but Tuchel was bereft of quality options in midfield following the mounting troubles on the injury front.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jorginho were both absent for the weekend league outing for the Blues which forced Tuchel’s hand in naming Kante on the starting team sheet alongside breakout star Trevoh Chalobah.
The World Cup-winning France international, however, will not be made available for selection when Tuchel’s men make the travels to Brentford midweek for the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash.
Tuchel while speaking to reporters in his pre-match presser claimed that Kante will be given some well-earned rest to recover and work on his recovery after turning out for 90 minutes in the nil-nil stalemate over the weekend.
‘What we did with N’Golo Kante for 90 minutes was close to irresponsible.
‘Will he be involved against Brentford? Simply no. We cannot do this and I will not do it.
‘We will now give him time to recover and prepare for Aston Villa and this is the situation.’
