Chelsea are understood to be considering a move for Villarreal central defender Pau Torres to shore up their defensive options in light of the contract standoff involving Antonio Rudiger.
The Blues star first-team regular is holding out on signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge beyond the next summer with Rudiger keen on a major hike in his wages to commit his stay.
With La Liga giants Real Madrid keeping close tabs on Rudiger’s situation ahead of the forthcoming January transfer window, Thomas Tuchel could be forced to scout the market for reinforcements to add to his options at the back.
According to reports from 90min, Spain international Pau Torres has emerged as a likely target for the Chelsea camp with a move to the Premier League long expected to be on the cards for the Villarreal man.
The 24-year-old Torres has been a star performer for his side in the Spanish top flight and Chelsea will be backed to step up the chase for his signature which will be eyed up by rival clubs across Europe.
