Mason Mount was sidelined for the Newcastle United clash due to an illness, confirmed reports after the teamsheets were announced for Saturday’s St. James’ Park showdown.
The England international was not named in Chelsea’s matchday squad and his exclusion raised a lot of questions following his hat-trick heroics last time around in Premier League football for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Goal reporter Nizaar Kinsella has claimed that Mount is suffering from an illness and could not play any part in the game for the Blues which explains the playmaker’s last-minute absence.
With Mount sidelined, Thomas Tuchel went ahead with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech as his options out on the flanks with Germany international Kai Havertz the focal point of Chelsea’s forward lineup.
