Chelsea full-back Ben Chilwell has earned a last-minute call-up to the England fold for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers with the player set to replace his club teammate Reece James in the squad.
James suffered an ankle injury in Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City earlier this month and the defender was subsequently ruled out of action until after the forthcoming international break.
Chilwell has been on the fringes of the Chelsea ranks early on this season with Thomas Tuchel opting to draft Marcos Alonso in the left wing-back role for an extended period following his fine run of form for the table-topping Blues.
The former Leicester City man Chilwell, however, was handed a start last time around in league action against Southampton and he capped off a mixed showing with a fantastic volleyed strike fro Chelsea’s third goal in the 3-1 win over the Saints.
Reports from Sky Sports confirm that Chilwell will be joining the 23-man England camp along with Tammy Abraham who left Stamford Bridge in this summer window to sign for Serie A side AS Roma.
